Felix has been awarded an ERC Starting Grant. This will fund a groundbreaking new project called “AtoFun – Atomic Scale Defects: Structure and Function”. The goal of this project is to gain new fundamental insight into the complex 3D structure of atomic scale crystal defects, how they can be modified and how these changes can be used to control material properties. To do this we will combine insights from coherent X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and laser-induced transient grating measurements. Together with multi-scale material simulations these new experiments will enable unprecedented insight into the structure-function relationship of structural engineering materials.
This grant will fund one postdoctoral researcher and two PhD studentships – details of these will be available on the “join” section of this website and the jobs page of the Oxford Department of Engineering Science in due course, so watch this space!
